She's a Runner

Long term projects like this 911 have distinct stages and each time we finish a stage, we feel a sense of pride in completion—and anticipation for the next.  Our latest task has been finishing up the pedal cluster and fluid line installation so that we could consider the car a runner—even without a fuel tank, we're now able to drive the car around the block with a plastic fuel can functioning as the gas tank.

The pedal cluster is now in, along with the fuel and brake lines.  We bled the brakes and now have a real car sitting in our garage.  Sure, it looks a little scruffy--but if we hadn't decided to go whole-hog and do the repaint, we could actually have driven the car to work tomorrow.  We don't do scruffy, so we'll continue the process of stripping and preparation for a new coat of Sepia Brown.

We're using a combination of paint stripper and lacquer thinner to carefully remove the darker brown paint from the original enamel.  If we watch the process carefully, we can see the outer, newer layers softening and

The original finish on the car has been sanded through in a few spots—and we can certainly see indications of some minor bodywork under there, but we haven't discovered any new horrors.

We are stripping the car one panel at a time.  We've done the basic tub and are now working on the doors and fenders.
