Underneath a Porsche

We recently visited Willhoit Auto Restoration in California and shot some pictures of a stunning 1973 911S that had received a full restoration by Nate Cantwell. We were particularly impressed with the level of detail—Professional restoration shops make even garden variety nuts and bolts look fantastic. Everyone has seen images of beautiful 911s from the topside—we think the bottom is equally as photogenic.

We love the detail on the suspension. Every surface was refinished—even those Konis have been repainted to exactly match the original colors.

The underside of this 915 transmission is cleaner than most folks dining room table.  Details like the cloth straps that hold the emergency brake cables are spot-on.

The rear control arms have a nice satin finish with just the right amount of gloss. It contrast nicely with the freshly plated fasteners.  The correct gold cadmium-plating is tricky to do correctly.  Vintage-correct Michelin XWX tires are a nice touch.

There was also a nifty-looking 356 on the lift at Willhoit, and while we had our cameras out, we shot a few underneath this top-notch driver.

This 356 obviously gets used frequently—but that's a good thing!

A slightly larger front anti-roll bar helps the 356 corner a bit flatter with less oversteer issues.
