Prepping for Paint

We're continuing our work on the 1973 911, including pulling the windows out in preparation for paint.  The nose of the car is essentially bare steel, while much of the rear is down to the original Sepia paint.  We would prefer to use as much of the original paint as possible as a primer for our new paint finish--good factory paint is a great base.

There weren't any real horrors under the window seals--just a few touches of surface rust that will be treated.

We did find a spot of rust under each sill plate.  We cut out the affected area and made a nice clean patch. We're pretty happy to save the original rocker panels as these are hard to get just right.  This patch needs a bit for finish grinding to before getting sealed up.

With the windows out, we can really start to sand things down and smooth out any bumps and bruises our car has gotten along the way.
