Stoddard 2015 Swap Meet

 by Cameron Taylor

The Stoddard All-Porsche Lit Meet, Car Show and Swap Meet had a record year in 2015 for our 28th annual event. Festivities began the Friday evening with the Literature and Toy Meet. Held in the showroom of Stoddard, vendors brought Porsche literature, toys, and other items including tools and small trim items. The event officially began at 6:00pm, with vendors beginning to arrive as early as 4:30 to set out their trinkets. The room was filled to capacity, and the event had an excellent turnout.

Outside, cars from Stoddard’s own employees were on display including a 1959 Convertible D, a 1969 911S, 1969 912 Soft Window Targa, 1986 911 Turbo, 1972 911T Targa, a 993, and our latest addition, a 1982 911SC. Also on display were a new 911 Carrera GTS and Cayman GTS provided by Porsche of Beachwood.

The Car Show featured many spectactular examples of 356s and Early 911s

A green 356 Coupe and a gray 356 roadster

Jerry and Christy Payto's two 356s were some of the best in the show, with the roadster on the left winning third place in peoples' choice. The coupe is Largo Green - a rare color.

Porsches from different eras

Porsches from all eras were represented at the event. 911s from every generation, from the early long hood cars to the modern 991 were there.

Those at the swap meet enjoyed good weather all day, making for an enjoyable experience. The first car, an orange 911T, arrived around 8:00, with well over 100 show cars arriving as the morning went on. All models and eras of Porsche were well represented, from a 1956 356A to a 2015 911 Carrera 4S. Those in attendance faced a difficult decision in the Peoples’ Choice ballot, as there were many spectacular cars there.

In the end, four received the unique trophies, featuring early Porsche hubcaps. Finishing in 3rd was Jerry Payto with an immaculate gray 1961 356B Roadster. Taking 2nd place honors with a beautiful 1964 356C was Les Checel. In the 1st place award with a stunning 1962 356 ‘notchback’ was Dave Knight. But it was Damon Keller who won Best of Show for his spectacular Crystal Blue 1969 911S.

The swap meet was a mix of commercial and private vendors, including Unobtanium Inc., Aase Sales, and 356 Enterprises among others. Chuck Stoddard was also there selling parts. We had our annual show sale as well as scratch and dent area that was extremely popular throughout the day. The event was filled to capacity on vendor spaces. Items for sale included parts from models from 356s to 924s, 928s, and even late model 911s.

The event was a great success and a good time for all those who were there. Stoddard is looking to expand the event for an even better show and swap meet experience in 2016.
