60th Anniversary Photo Album

We found a treasure trove of old photos of Stoddard and we're posting them to celebrate our 60th Anniversary. They are in no particular order, but we found ourselves reminiscing for quite a while trying to place the names and faces we've seen through the years.  Enjoy!

John Truman working on a 911 engine in the 1980s.  John still handles our hinge and carburetor rebuild program.

An ad from the early 1990s.  Still true.

This pair of wild 356s were built for the Carrera Panamerica road race.

Change Deutsch Marks to the Euro..the rest remains the same.

A pair of cool 968s that were Special Wishes orders—one of which was purchased by Mark Taylor, our Product Development manager.  Mark later took that car to the PCA Parade in Cincinatti in 1994, where it won the 968 class in Concours.

A shot from our Swap Meet--probably mid 1990s.  Fred Baker still attends our events!

Denis Moore and Roberta Heller selling at the Swap Meet about 20 years ago.  Denis handles our eBay sales account now.

A trio of reds in front of the old dealership.

Our 1987 catalog—surprisingly, many of the prices on our exclusive products are nearly the same 30 years later!

A letter to Mick Williams (our manager in 1987) from Peter Schutz, the President of Porsche AG on our 30th anniversary.  This letter illustrates the close relationship we've always had with the Factory.

Turtles are still cool; our parts still arrive to you in a safe and timely fashion.  Same as it ever was!

Yes, we had a Mercedes catalog a while back, circa mid-1980s.

Our bodyshop in the 1990s—small and large repairs were handled here.

This shot could be from 1987, 1997, 2007 or maybe even this year.... (but probably 1997)

A lot of our earlier promotional materials featured hand-drawn Porsche artwork by Geoff Davies.

Dale Bush, John Truman and Mitch Burrows working on our 356 engine rebuild program in the early 90s.

More cool Davies line art.

Our swap meet still brings out a plethora of nifty collectibles.

We had the Audi franchise from its inception in the US in 1970, as well as Porsche since 1957.

The swap meet was held behind the dealership.

An A Speedster under scrutiny by Myron Vernis

Many of the employees that worked in our restoration shop went on to form their own shops after the dealership portion of Stoddard was sold to Penske.

Just like now, this is a saveable project. The upside is now thanks to rising vintage Porsche values, it's a little easier to do without getting upside down!

Chuck Stoddard made deals with Porsche AG to sell the leftover IROC Carreras here in the States.

The old warehouse stacked to the rafters with Porsche parts—not much has changed at the new location, although we are quite a bit more stuffed to the gills now.

A line-up in the repair bays from the 1990s.

A 914-6 with some period modifications for additional cooling in the nose.

We like the A on the left with the single driving light.  Heck, we like all of them.

Our exclusive restoration panels for the 356 on display at an early swap meet.

The Panamerica 356s outside the dealership with our crew.

Cleaning up a rough B Cabriolet.  Thankfully, these days we'd replace that entire tail panel with the new sheetmetal we offer.

Larry Clement stocking our shelves in the 1980s.

A paint to sample RS America.  We're drooling over here.

Two cars on the Celette bench getting straightened out.

Jack Sager, Con Peplowski and Bob Regel (our Merchandising Wizard) ran the One Lap event in 1980s in this Stoddard-sponsored 944 Turbo.

Hans J. Wichter, our illustrious President in the 1990s.

A gloriously 80s promotional shot in beautiful Chagrin Falls, Ohio.

We still have that forklift--it's powered by a 5-cylinder Audi motor.

Kris K., Dan Holt, Paul Domitrovic, Dale Stiebeling, Woody Hinkle and Cheryl in the Phone Sales Office in the 1980s.

An aerial shot of the old Dealership.  Get out your magnifying glass to spot the Porsches.

Sarah P., Mitch B.,  Gary, Terry and Kevin Rushworth in the Shipping Department, circa 1990.

A shot of the dealership in the 1960s with a Volvo 1800s and a 912 on the roof!

Chuck Stoddard tweaking on his 12-cylinder 917.  Random factoid: the engine type is actually 912!

In the Service Department in the early 1970s.  Rustproofing was done to the right near the Dyno cell.

Mike Kopsic with a 356A Cabriolet on a rotisserie to the right.

This was from the 2010 East Coast Holiday held here in Cleveland.

A delicious Mint Grun 964 series car that was a paint to sample car ordered here at Stoddard.

A 2.0 911 engine getting built back up.

2007 Stoddard Swap Meet

From our latest East Coast Holiday event, our Bruce Schwartz rapping with Curt Dansby, the President of the 356 Registry.

We used a state-of-the-art optical Bosch alignment rack here in the late 1960s.

Our current showroom here in Highland Heights.

Thanks for visting!

Update:  We've been getting a lot of great feedback on this photo album.  Larry Morris sent us this note, with a few new old photos....

" As a former Parts Manager (1962-1976) for Chuck Stoddard, I clearly recognized some of the folks in the pictures; thanks for sharing. I’ve added a couple, one of Bob Nikel’s 914-6 race car and a picture of one of the (three I think) RSR’s we received in 1975. "
