We used a sample that was cut out of an all-original 1967 912 (Reutter car) to create our new headliners. We machined a custom-made heat texturing die for the base material and then added the correctly-sized small perforations, with a spacing of approximately 5.6mm or .22in. We have seen similar tight daisy patterns in later 356, SWB and LWB cars and tried to recreate it as closely as possible.

To get the best color match, our sample was cut from the bottom of the C-pillar where it tucks under the parcel shelf cover (where it was not exposed to 50+ years sunlight or contaminants.) The original color is probably better described as Taupe as it does have a more grey hue than the brighter or more yellowish modern ivory vinyls.

A plus of this material is that it has just the right amount of stretchiness so that you can install it without wrinkling at the corners.
