2017 PCA Werks Reunion and Monterey in General

The Porsche Club of America’s Werks Reunion was be held on August 18, 2017 at the Corral de Tierra Country Club, near Laguna Seca Raceway. It was close enough for our ears to hear the on-track action, but our eyes were feasting on the hundreds of appealing Porsches. The event, held during Monterey Car Week is open to all Porsche clubs, owners, and enthusiasts.  You could display your own car in model-specific Porsche Corrals or enter the Porsche Judged Field and compete to win in more than 20 prize categories.

According to the PCA, the Werks Reunion was created as an event to celebrate both the Porsche marque as well as the camaraderie of being an enthusiast. “This is not a contest of who has removed dust from the deepest crevices in their Porsche but rather a judged show that rewards a Porsche that has been lovingly maintained…this is a casual gathering of Porsche enthusiasts focused on having fun rather than solely competition.”   We like that attitude—and we were happy to be involved with the event.  We displayed some new products in our booth and chatted with customers from around the world.

Elsewhere during the Monterey festivities, we were amazed by some of the auction results.  From a $93,500 (with the 10-percent buyer’s premium) 1.8-liter four-cylinder 914 (albeit, with only 3400 miles on it) to a 1951 Pre-A that fetched nearly a million bucks—and it wasn’t even a Four Cam car!—the results were impressive. As with auctions of this caliber, the Monterey sales were not all champagne and big cigars—there were also a few no-sales.  We noticed that there were several later model cars with aggressive reserves.

A cool 3.25 mil for this 908—one of our favorite Factory race cars.

Over at Laguna Seca, we ran into our pal Ron Goodman from Australia.

Funny man, Adam Carolla was campaigning the ex-Paul Newman 911 out of the Canepa compound.
