Running Again!

We had a busy weekend—we reinstalled the original 2.4 liter numbers-matching engine in our 1973.5 911T and hooked up all of the mechanicals, electrics and fuel lines.  Since we're still trying to figure out what to do about our gas tank, we just ran some fuel lines to the jug that we use to fuel our lawn mower.  Classy.

Before we fired it up, we disconnected the coil and CDI ignition box and allowed the fuel pump to run—flushing fuel through the lines and the injectors—which were removed from the engine.  The injectors appeared to spray correctly--one was sticking a bit, but the flow of fresh fuel quickly put it right.  Once we could smell fresh fuel and not varnish,  we reinstalled the injectors and plugged the electrics back in.

Even without the hand throttle and cold start enrichment hooked up, the engine quickly fired up, sputtered and died.  We repeated that a few times--but on the fourth nudge of the starter, it spun to life and settled into a CIS-typical smooth idle.  Wunderbar!

Next up, we'll have to finish up the pedal cluster installation, bleed the brakes and take it for a short spin around the block before we continue our work preparing it for paint.
