Project Creep

A 1969 911s is a car that's worth saving in almost any form—but here we have  a project that we thought didn't need any saving at all—it was a nice car that had a beautiful paint job that looked good from nearly any angle. The 911s came to us as a "rust free" California car—but like many enthusiasts, we found out that rust-free can be a sliding scale for many sellers.  No matter—thanks to the great parts support that the early 911s benefit from, we can fix these issues quickly and prevent further rust from forming deep within the Porsche's shell.

We started by this project by wanting to fix the fitment of the hood and clean up a little corrosion we saw on the seal channel in the front partition wall.

That led us to picking at the gas tank support and noticing some issues. We wound up pulling off the tank support and seeing the problems with our front suspension pan.

We wound up replacing much of the nose of the unibody during this process.  This area is now awaiting final seam sealing and paint.

Next up,  we find out what is lurking under those front fenders....
