Painting By Hand, Just Like the Factory!

When our 911 was built, there was actually a worker who took care of painting a few portions of the car with a brush and a steady hand.  The inside edges of each of the doors, as well as the lower portions of rocker panels were painted with a semi-flat paint.  The goal was to make those portions of the car look more finished, without adding additional parts.

For the doors, we struck a clean and smooth line with a fine-tipped sable pinstriping brush and backfilled with a larger, normal paintbrush.  The resulting finish has the right "look" as the original build—complete with noticeable brush marks and no masking line.

Next, we carefully painted the lower edges of the rocker panels to match the original look.  We took pictures of these markings before we brought the car in for paint to use as a reference.  We had those pictures to guide us as we went.

With that hand painting done, we can continue with the reassembly process, including replacing the beat-up rocker deco trims with new pieces.
