Final Push To The Finish

This weekend's project was sorting out the various lights on our 1973 911T and installing our rear window. We are in the final push to completion on this project and we're excited to get it on the road and sort out any more issues before we offer it for sale next month.

We noticed a few lights out before we tore the car apart for paint, but decided that it didn't make a lot of sense to spend a lot of time trouble shooting.  The car is, of course, back together now and we're working on making sure everything works!

The big issues were with the license lights and the left front light cluster.  Neither of which worked.   The license light was somewhat easy.  We had reinstalled one of the lights backwards, so it was shorting itself out.  Easy to fix!

We had to rewire the left front housing completely, as several of the connections were bad.  We also discovered a few loose wires going to the fuse box for the parking light and turn signal circuits.

Our final issue, which we're still working on, is the right rear tail light.  The blinker works on this side, so we think it's probably just a lost connection somewhere along the positive lead—maybe even as easy as being loose at the fuse box.  We'll figure it out.

Next up, we had to reinstall the rear window.  We used the original glass and trim, but a new Porsche Factory seal.

The rear window install went smoothly.  One tricky part to installing a rear window in the 911 is to get the wires fed correctly through the seal.  The wires need to travel through a channel that's molded into the seal, but you will also need to punch a series of holes for the wires to pass through on their way to that channel.

After the wires get fed through the seal, the next tricky part is to get the window positioned correctly in the opening.  A typical trouble spot is the vent area at the top, where the window won't want to set down far enough. We used a suction cup to "pull" the window into position.
