NorCal Treffen Event Report

We attended this show as they celebrated their 10th anniversary last year, and it was a foregone conclusion that we’d be back again for the 11th. Last weekend we made the trip to Northern California for the ‘best car show you’ve never heard of’. The show offers a great mix of aircooled Volkswagen and vintage Porsche cars for enthusiasts to peruse, and it is getting bigger with every passing year. Some 200 cars showed up this year, and it was a great gathering of like-minded enthusiasts. Even a handful of watercooled cars showed up, both of the Volkswagen and Porsche persuasion. It was well worth the trip.

The show offers an amazing cross-section of the Porsche enthusiast microcosm, as some strange and rare machines showed their faces at the event, including a 1952 Split-Window Pre-A cabriolet, a couple Karmann Hardtop Coupes, a flat-six powered VW Bus, a few slant nose 930s, a Formula 1 pace car 914, and even a Dannenhauer & Stauss coupe showed up. There was a lot of crossover between the VW guys and the Porsche guys, too. Everyone was genuinely interested to see what everyone else had brought.

We were there taking photos, chatting with Porsche friends (and meeting new ones), and helping with the raffle proceedings. The show has a very chill atmosphere, and everything is shaped around the social aspects of automotive enthusiasm. Shows like this bring people together, where they can chat with like-minded individuals. Entering the park, it was almost as if the responsibilities of the outside world washed away and for a few hours none of that stuff mattered. Check your baggage at the door, we’re here to have a good time and chat about cars.

The show had a relatively early start at 8AM, but with coffee and pastries on hand for the early arrivals, everything ran smoothly getting into the park and getting everyone set up. There were a number of cool items raffled off as door prizes throughout the day, including Stoddard shirts, and some cool Schuco models. In all I’d say the day was a hit, and people hung around the show until about 2 in the afternoon, just checking everything out. It was certainly worth attending, and we will definitely be marking it down on our calendar for 2017. If you’re within driving distance of Concord, California next August, you should check it out, too!
